About the teacher: Jon King

I took my first clay class the summer after 5th grade. I liked it. I threw a lot of pots at Corvallis High School with Dennis Staats. At Whitman College after 2 years of roughly heading toward law school I followed my soul nudges into art where all the doors began to open. I earned a MFA in ceramics at the U of O in 1987. In 1989 I helped Club Mud Ceramic Co-op come in to being.
There I sat down to make pots every day and sculpture now and then and I began to really learn things.
My aesthetic of great affection for and understanding of gestural immediacy has been honed and fed by a life of athletics ( pole vaulting, ultimate frisbee, and basketball), music and dance, and play in the wild world.

Clay, glazes, and firing are included in the class price. Tuition also covers access to our Open Studio on Sundays from 10am-4pm to come and practice what you are learning in class.
You are welcome to use the studio tools, but you should come with a basic tool kit (this can be purchased on our website).
