How Does It Work?

  • Step 1

    Bring your pieces to the shop during open hours.

  • Step 2

    We fire your work in our large Skutt 1227 kilns. Bisque firings go to cone 04, and glaze firings go to cone 6. Custom firing schedules may be arranged.

  • Step 3

    Firing typically takes 1–2 weeks.

  • Step 4

    We’ll call you when your work is done, and you can pick it up during store hours.

Firing Prices

Prices are based on shelf space for pieces 6" tall or shorter. Taller pieces are charged double, since they take up more vertical space in the kiln. Plates are half price when you bring at least a half shelf’s worth.

Bisque Firing, or Glaze Firing With Your Own Glazes

  • Quarter shelf (13" × 13"): $18
  • Half shelf (13" × 26"): $30
  • Whole shelf (26" × 26"): $40
  • Half kiln (Skutt 1227): $60
  • Whole kiln (Skutt 1227): $110

Glaze Firing With Studio Glazes

  • Quarter shelf (13" × 13"): $25
  • Half shelf (13" × 26"): $40

Planning Your Firing

Book a Half or Full Kiln Load

Availability for half and full kiln loads is limited, so we recommend scheduling at least 2 weeks in advance. Pricing includes loading and unloading your work.

Rent Our Kiln for Speed or Special Programs

If you need a quicker turnaround or a specialty firing, such as cone 5 or a slow cool, you can rent our smaller Skutt 818 kiln for $50.

Use Our Stilts and Cookies

Stilting: We charge $1 per item, and you don’t need to bring your own stilts. Pieces to be stilted must weigh less than a standard mug. If glaze drips onto our stilts, there’s a $5 replacement fee per stilt. You’re welcome to bring stilts from home; just make sure they’re clearly marked as yours.

Cookies: We have kiln cookies available. If a runny glaze drips onto one of ours, there’s a $1 replacement fee. You can also bring your own.

Protect the Kiln

If glaze or other materials damage a kiln shelf and it can be repaired, the fee is $25 per half shelf. Damage to elements, bricks, or other kiln parts is charged at the cost of materials and labor.
